  1. The present that is you

     

    In your lap a parcel

    Wrapped in words and images

    of yesterday

    How will you unwrap it,

    nervously, tentatively?

     

    In your lap a parcel

    wrapped in colours and picture

    of childhood

    How will you unwrap it,

    quickly, fearfully?

     

    In your lap a parcel

    wrapped in sunlight and gold,

    how will you unwrap the

    present that is you,

    happily, excitedly?

  2. Sons of the same mother

     

    She may have born us

    close together or far apart

    so are we not

    sons of the same mother?

     

    We may call her

    Mother, mum or ma

    so are we not

    sons of the same mother?

     

    We may be seated in her lap

    Or reaching for her skirts

    so are we not

    Sons of the same mother?

     

    We work together in love

    as brothers

    so are we not

    sons of the same mother?

     

    Facing away from her

    or looking up at her face

    She holds us dear

    because we are sons

    Of  the same mother.
