    There are marvellous men,

    There are wonderful women

    Yet you stand before me,

    What me, really?

     

    Elders wiser,

    Youths stronger

    Yet you stand before me,

    What me, really?

     

    I think I’m not honest

    I know I’m not always true,

    Yet you stand before me,

    What me, really?

     

    I’ve hidden in the shadows,

    I’ve cowered in the light,

    Yet you stand before me,

    What me, really?

     

    I might let you down

    I may not see it through

    Yet you stand before me,

    What me, really?

     

    I see your smile,

    I hear your words

    That’s why you are perfect

    Yes you, really

     

     

  2. The present that is you

     

    In your lap a parcel

    Wrapped in words and images

    of yesterday

    How will you unwrap it,

    nervously, tentatively?

     

    In your lap a parcel

    wrapped in colours and picture

    of childhood

    How will you unwrap it,

    quickly, fearfully?

     

    In your lap a parcel

    wrapped in sunlight and gold,

    how will you unwrap the

    present that is you,

    happily, excitedly?
