You balance on the waters
With regal equanimity,
You grace deities’ hands.
Harried by the water’s sway
Do devotees question your roots?
Do they exalt your murky origins?
Is your journey honoured?
Do lovers know of your yearning?
Do they bless your reaching the light?
‘Circled like a glowing moon
Do viewers know of you longing?
Do they feel your solitude?
Seemingly floating aloft
Grounded in the mud and mire
You bridge the zenith and nadir
Beautiful one, Lotus

Come,
Sing songs of desire,
Breathe arias of love!
As the people are captive
to tunes they’ll never own
Calling the warriors!
Come,
Battle inequality now,
Challenge injustice!
As the people are divided
By barriers that aren’t there.
Calling the Magicians,
Come,
Share wisdom constantly,
Offer insights endlessly!
As the people are confused
By dogma they didn’t write.
Calling the kings,
Come,
Honour us all repeatedly,
Show us back to ourselves.
As the people are betray’d
By leaders who aren’t ours.
And you,
oh poets,
Come,
Write of priceless love,
Speak of equal paradise
So the people are blessed
By dreams they cherish and share.
